Ukraine topped the medal standings at the European Schoolboys & Schoolgirls Boxing Championships
Altogether 351 contests featured at the European Boxing Confederation’s Schoolboys & Schoolgirls Boxing Championships in Maribor, Slovenia during the eight competition days and 29 boxers bagged their titles.
Ukraine topped the medal standings with their nine gold, four silver and seven bronze medals in Maribor. England ranked as No.2 in the competition with eight titles, while Ireland finished in the third position of the medal standings.
Armenia, Azerbaijan, Romania, Poland, Spain, Latvia and Greece all claimed at least one gold medal in the European Schoolboys & Schoolgirls Boxing Championships. Georgia, Croatia, Moldova, Scotland, Bulgaria, Hungary, Italy, Czech Republic, Albania, Kosovo, and Slovakia had also finalists in the competition.
Slovenia has never hosted any major boxing events in the past and the EUBC Schoolboys & Schoolgirls European Boxing Championships was their important event for the development of the sport.
Impressive number of 380 young boxers competed from the 2009 and 2010 age groups in Maribor and the event was the start of the career of these 13 and 14-year-old girls and boys.
Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, England, Estonia, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Scotland, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Ukraine were the participating nations in Maribor.
