Lopez and La Cruz both won the 1st Cuban National Selection Tournament for the Panamerican Games

The Panamerican Games will take place in Santiago de Chile from October 21 and the event serves as the Olympic Qualifier in the region.

One of the boxing powers, the Cubans arranged their first national selection event for that at the Rafael Trejo Boxing Gym in Havana.

The bronze medallist from the recent World Championships, Alejandro Claro Fiss won the flyweight (51kg) following his success over Giovis Salfran.

Rafael Ernesto Blanco delivered the top sensation of the selection, de had a tight success over the World silver medallist Saidel Horta at the featherweight (57kg).

The multiple World Champion Lazaro Alvarez had a tough final opponent, but the veteran managed to beat the younger Erislandy Alvarez.

A new national team member, Jorge Cuellar had a busy job against the 19-year-old Jorge Daniel Forcades to take the gold at the light middleweight (71kg).

The two-time Olympic Games winner Arlen Lopez landed the better shots than Jorge Soto and the 30-year-old boxer bagged the title of the light heavyweight (80kg).

The 34-year-old Julio Cesar La Cruz, the two-time Olympic Champion had still the speed to beat Nelson Williams at the heavyweight (92kg).

The silver medallist from the recent World Championships, Fernando Arzola smashed Adonis Iznaga and he earned the title of the super heavyweight (+92kg) in Havana.

The next round of the Cuban National Panamerican Games Qualifier will be held to decide all of their places for Santiago de Chile on September 6.
