The stars from Mauritius ruled the Indian Ocean Islands Games

Thirteen male finals featured in the boxing competition of the Indian Ocean Islands Games in Antananarivo, Madagascar.

Mauritius dominated the event, the country earned nine out of the thirteen titles in the Indian Ocean Islands Games.

Another picturesque island, the team from Seychelles was the runner-up with their two gold, three silver and five bronze medals.

La Reunion earned one gold, five silver and two bronze medals in Antananarivo where the host Madagascar also won one weight class.

Mauritius’ three-time Olympian and All Africa Games winner Richarno Colin is the best boxer of the whole region and one of the African stars who dominated the light welterweight (63.5kg) final against Reunion’s Ryan Bieou.

The All Africa Games winner from Mauritius, the two-time Olympian Merven Clair impressed in the event against Seychelles’ Edrian Volcere.

Mauritius’ Jordy Vadamootoo was African Champion in 2017 and despite that he moved up three categories, he won the welterweight (67kg).

The 20-year-old Dasheil Fanchette achieved Seychelles’ first gold medal in the Games, he defeated a newcomer from Mauritius, Jefferson Marguerite at the light heavyweight (80kg).

Seychelles’ All Africa Games silver medallist Keddy Agnes is one of the best African super heavyweight (+92kg) boxers and he was unstoppable for Reunion’s Didier Jean-Baptiste in the final.

Madagascar has bright traditions in the smallest category, and their minimumweight (48kg) boxer Alain Randrianarivony was able to beat his rivals.
