Lucy Kings-Wheatley amazed at the Silesian Women’s Open on Day2

The 18th edition of the Silesian Women’s Open Tournament continued with 24 bouts in the city of Gliwice, in Poland.

The women’s international competition holds for the elite, youth and junior age groups in Poland and strong nations joined the Silesian Open this year as well.

Hungary’s European Junior Championships bronze medallist Sara Nyogeri had difficulties in the first round against Poland’s Nadia Kowalska but from the second she worked hard to turn back therefore she won their meeting by split decision.

In the next junior light bantamweight (52kg) contest, France’s best hope in this age group, Maloe Teresi stopped a local boxer, Weronika Hodun and she also marched to the finals of the Silesian Open as Nyogeri.

Kinga Krowka, the European Junior silver medallist, is an excellent youth talent in Poland but she had to do her very best to eliminate Ireland’s Rebecca Kavanagh at the light welterweight (63kg).

Poland’s next strong youth boxer, Aleksandra Jankowiak controlled her opener against England’s Ella Thompstone in Gliwice. Her teammate, a young elite boxer, Natalia Kuczewska also eliminated an English girl, Kelsey Oakley at the light flyweight (50kg).

Lucy Kings-Wheatley is a new addition to the English national team but she won the Boxam U22 Tournament on May and she opened her campaign amazingly in Gliwice where she defeated a veteran Polish fighter, Sandra Kruk at the lightweight (60kg).
