Amazing Irish successes at the Silesian Women’s Open Tournament

The youth finals and the last part of the elite semi-finals were on the program of the fifth competition day at the 18th edition of the Silesian Women’s Open Tournament in Gliwice, Poland.

The women’s international competition holds for the elite, youth and junior age groups in Poland and strong nations joined the Silesian Open this year as well.

Ireland’s duo, Tiffany Spencer and the European medallist Katie O’Keefe opened the session and earned gold medals in the smallest youth weight categories following their successes over local Polish girls.

Hungary’s strong duo, Laura Horvath and the European Youth Champion Zsofia Szira both won their weight categories in the Open Tournament, their strength was the difference in the finals against Ukraine’s Aurika Kostrytska and Germany’s Sarah Gläser.

Niamh Keogh continued Ireland’s winning path in the competition, she defeated Norway’s Didrika Kaur at the youth bantamweight (54kg) final.

Natalia Fascizewska has Polish roots but she represents Ireland in the international stage and she claimed the next title in a unique battle against Poland’s Anna Sobczynska.

Aleksandra Jankowiak and Kinga Krowka both earned medals for Poland in the major championships and the first was won their exciting final bout at the light welterweight (63kg).

England’s Youth World Champion Amber Moss-Birch controlled her next final bout and she defeated Norway’s No.1, the multiple bronze medallist Sofia Stigen Sorensen on their re-match in Gliwice.
