Strong Indians at the Mustafa Hajrulahovic Memorial Tournament
The 21st edition of the Mustafa Hajrulahovic Talijan Memorial Tournament was held for the elite and youth boxers in the capital city of Bosnia & Herzegovina, in Sarajevo.
The competition venue was the Hotel Hills Sarajevo Congress and Termal Spa Resort and the international event was named after Division General Mr. Mustafa Hajrulahovic Talijan, Bosnia & Herzegovina’s army commander and hero.
India’s Manju Rani is an excellent female boxer who moved up to the light flyweight (50kg) but she was too strong for Afghanistan’s lone woman participant, Sadia Bromand, winning the final by RSC in the third round.
India’s Barun Singh Shagolshem competed mostly in youth competitions in the past but he had the outstanding technical skills to beat Poland’s Jakub Slominski at the men’s flyweight (51kg) final.
Hadi Hadrous is No.2 in Sweden after the Olympian Nebil Ibrahim at the men’s featherweight (57kg) but he impressed in the finals of the Hajrulahovic Memorial where he defeated a more experienced Indian, Akash Kumar.
India’s Manish Kaushik, the former World Championships bronze medallist, returned to the international stage in Sarajevo and he defeated Palestine’s Mohammed Soud in the final of the light welterweight (63.5kg).
Poland’s Tokyo Olympian Damian Durkacz is their best male boxer who has a strong concurrency in his homeland, Cezary Znamiec at the light middleweight (71kg). Durkacz faced with him in the final of the Hajrulahovic but his energetic shots decided this re-match.
