The Ruska Memorial Tournament featured in the city of Santa Claus
The exciting three-day long Ruska Memorial Tournament was held in Finland’s amazing city, Lapland’s capital, in Rovaniemi.
The new edition of the International Santa Claus Ruska Tournament delighted the picturesque city of Rovaniemi, which is located in North Finland and famous for the Santa Claus, furthermore, its Aurora Borealis and beautiful environment.
Finland’s top female boxer, the European U22 silver medallist Vilma Viitanen had a veteran Swedish opponent at the featherweight (57kg), Sara Svensson, but her beautiful style of boxing delivered a success for her.
Finland’s next female hope, Krista Kovalainen developed a lot in strength and tactics which paid off against her teammate Johanna Huttunen in the final of the women’s light welterweight (63kg).
Sweden’s Alexander Fredriksson was bronze medallist at the 2019 European Junior Boxing Championships and he returned at the Ruska Memorial Tournament after a long break. The 20-year-old Swedish lightweight (60kg) boxer lost to Finland’s Santeri Kemppainen but his return is a great addition to their country.
Erik Mendoza has got roots from Peru but he represents Sweden in the international stage and he had the better shots than Finland’s Benjamin Eriksson to win the men’s middleweight (75kg) in Rovaniemi.
Finland’s best male boxer, the 21-year-old Nikita Nystedt was too strong for all of his opponents and his compatriot, Heikki Tenhunen abandoned their unequal contest in the first round of their light heavyweight (80kg) final.
