Lopez defends IBF World title
Mexican fighter Luis Alberto Lopez (29-2-0) defended his IBF World Featherweight title. 30-year-old Lopez won via unanimous decision against American Joet Gonzalez (26-4-0) on Friday night in “American Bank Center”, in the main event of a Top Rank show.
Judge Ruben Carrion scored the bout 116:112, Robert Hoyle 118:110 and Steve Weisfeld 117:111.
For Lopez it’s the second title defense. He won the title in December last year by upsetting British Josh Warrington in Leeds.
He defended the title in Belfast on May 27th against Irish Michael Conlan. He stopped Conlan in fifth round.
In undercard of Friday’s show, prodigy Xander Zayas continued to impress.
21-years-old stopped Mexican Roberto Valenzuela Jr in fifth round to win North American Boxing Federation and WBO NABO Super Welter titles. For Puerto Rico born Zayas was 17th win in as many professional boxing fights. He is soon supposed to fight for a World title.
