Zambia’s Chinyemba knocked out his rival at the African Olympic Qualifier

Thirteen boxers celebrated their gold medals at the African Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event in Dakar, Senegal after the final session.

Nigeria, Egypt and Morocco each bagged three Olympic quotas while DR Congo, Mozambique, Tunisia and Zambia received one place for Paris 2024.

Following the ten women’s quotas have been shared during the semi-finals, Morocco’s World Champion Khadija Mardi earned the 11th female flight ticket to Paris after beating Kenya’s veteran Elizabeth Andiego in the final of the women’s middleweight (75kg).

Zambia’s sensation, the Tokyo Olympian Patrick Chinyemba impressed in the men’s flyweight (51kg) final, he knocked out his Tunisian opponent and next to his gold medal, he earned the quota for Paris as well.

Nigeria’s duo, the professional Joshua Omole Dolapo (57kg) and Adam Olaore (92kg) won their weight classes with excellent performance defeating Ethiopian and Algerian rivals in the final contests.

Algeria’s Jugurtha Ait Bekka and Mauritius’ three-time Olympian Louis Colin delivered one of the sensational fights of the day and the first became the winner in their light welterweight (63.5kg) final.

Egypt’s Omar Elsayed Ragab Elawady (71kg) and the 36-year-old veteran Abdelrahman Salah Orabi Abdelgawwad (80kg) both won their categories surprisingly and earned their quotas to Paris.

Algeria’s Mourad Kadi was the main favourite of the men’s super heavyweight (+92kg) and he accomplished his goal beating the lone host country’s boxer in the final, Diarga Balde.
