The day of the surprises at the Asian Games

Several surprises delighted the fourth competition day at the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China where early finals were held in several weight classes.

A record number of 238 boxers from 38 countries are participating in the boxing event of the Asian Games in Hangzhou. Among them 34 boxers, including 20 females will earn their Olympic quotas for Paris 2024.

Thailand’s Chuthamat Raksat and Japan’s Tsukimi Namiki both earned several medals in the major championships but they met each other already in the Round of 16 at the women’s light flyweight (50kg). The Thai found the best fighting range earlier and she was able to eliminate the bronze medallist from the Tokyo Olympics.

Kyrgyzstan’s Askat Kultayev replaced Zhantoro Tashiyev in the national team at the light welterweight (63.5kg) and he defeated already two boxers in the Asian Games, including the Indian star, Shiva Thapa today.

Mongolia’s Chinzorig Baatarsukh and Uzbekistan’s Ruslan Abdullayev met in the repeat match of the final of the World Boxing Championships already in the Round of 16. The Mongolian felt the distance well from the first seconds and he was able to make a revenge in this early final.

Tajikistan’s Asian U22 Champion Davlat Boltayev was too strong for Turkmenistan’s returning veteran, Arslanbek Achilov and his speed decided their heavyweight (92kg) contest in Hangzhou.

Philippines’ former Southeast Asian Games winner John Nobel Marvin moved up to the heavyweight (92kg) and he returned to the international events with a success in Hangzhou, he stopped Nepal’s Rabin Nepal on Day4.
