Brazil’s strongest ever team competes in the Panamerican Games

Brazil named a 13-strong team to the upcoming Panamerican Games which will be the Olympic Qualifier of the American continent in Santiago de Chile.

Brazil claimed 8 gold, 22 silver and 37 bronze medals in the boxing history of the Panamerican Games between 1951 and 2019.

The Brazilians topped the overall medal standings at the 2022 American Boxing Championships and their boxers earned several medals at the Tokyo Olympics, at the Women’s and Men’s World Boxing Championships.

The 21st Women’s and the 78th Men’s National Championships was held in Foz de Iguacu which was the last test and selection competition before the Games.

The women’s team contains the Tokyo Olympic Games silver medallist and World Champion Beatriz Ferreira who will be the main favourite at the women’s lightweight (60kg) in Chile’s capital. She won almost all of her international contests in the recent six years.

Carolina De Almeida (50kg) and Barbara Maria Dos Santos (66kg) both earned bronze medals in the recent Women’s World Boxing Championships. The latter defeated the Tokyo Olympic Champion Busenaz Surmeneli of Turkey in a preparation tournament.

The Tokyo Olympian tall Jucielen Romeu (57kg), the veteran Tatiana Chagas (54kg) and Viviane Pereira (75kg) were still involved to their female squad.

The Olympic Games bronze medallist Abner Junior Teixeira moved up to the super heavyweight (+92kg) and he won several preparation events.

Wanderson Oliveira (71kg), Wanderley Pereira (80kg) and the Tokyo Olympian Keno Marley Machado (92kg) all earned medals in the 2021 or the 2023 Men’s World Boxing Championships.

The American Champion Luiz Gabriel Oliveira Chalot is the most progressed boxer in the national team with brilliant technical skills and he has gold medal expectations at the men’s featherweight (57kg).

Michael Douglas Trindade (51kg) and the 21-year-old Yuri Falcao Reis (63.5kg) are younger talents but they have two years of experiences in the national team.
