Colombia will send maximum number of boxers to the Panamerican Games

Colombia will send a maximum number of 13 boxers to the Panamerican Games to Santiago de Chile, which will be the fourth Qualifying Event for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Colombia bagged 3 gold, 10 silver and 14 bronze medals in the boxing history of the Panamerican Games since 1951 but the country is stronger than in the previous decades.

The Colombians impressed in the Women’s World Boxing Championships where their team earned two silver and two bronze medals.

The Colombian team competed successfully at the Men’s World Boxing Championships, American Boxing Championships and the Central American & Caribbean Games in 2023.

Ingrit Valencia, the former Olympic Games bronze medallist is in top shape, her brilliant technical skills make her one of the favourites at the women’s light flyweight (50kg).

Jenny Marcela Arias is another experienced female boxer in the team, she earned a silver medal in the Women’s World Boxing Championships, following she moved down to the bantamweight (54kg).

Angie Paola Valdes was one of the main sensations of the year, she reached her career highlights at the women’s lightweight (60kg) in 2023.

Another World medallist, the 20-year-old Camila Camilo (66kg), Valeria Arboleda (57kg) and Luisa Fernanda Vasquez (75kg) are members of their next generations in the women’s national team.

The most experienced male boxer in Colombia is the Rio 2016 Olympics silver medallist Yuberjen Martinez and the 32-year-old star is still fast enough to beat his younger rivals at the men’s flyweight (51kg).

Cristian Salcedo earned several medals in the recent six years and the strong super heavyweight (+92kg) boxer could be a hard opponent to anyone in Santiago de Chile.

Yilmar Leandro Gonzalez (57kg) and Jose Manuel Viafara (63.5kg) both progressed in the annual competitions and they defeated some of the stars in those events.

Jhonatan Arboleda (71kg), Jhojhan Caicedo (80kg) and the 20-year-old Marlon Andres Hurtado (92kg) all have international experience.
