Omailyn Alcala, Yoel Finol and Albert Ramirez are the spearheads of Team Venezuela in the Panamerican Games
Venezuela selected 11 boxers to the upcoming Panamerican Games which will be the next Olympic Qualifier after the European, African and Asian competitions.
Their boxing history is bright, Venezuela earned 8 gold, 16 silver and 43 bronze medals during the recent editions from the Panamerican Games since 1951.
Tayonis Cedeno is a veteran boxer in the national team with plenty of experience and she will box at the light flyweight (50kg). Johana Gomez reached the Top8 in the Women’s World Boxing Championships and she is one of the secret favourites at the women’s bantamweight (54kg) in Santiago de Chile.
The AMBC American Champion Omailyn Alcala was quarter-finalist in the Women’s World Boxing Championships and she found her best category, the featherweight (57kg) in the previous one year where she is effective and tall enough to control her contests.
Krisandy Rios is another well-experienced female boxer in the national team with strong medal hopes at the lightweight (60kg). Yuliannys Alvarez (66kg) and Maryelis Yriza (75kg) are the members of their younger generations with excellent youth results.
Keymberth Gonzalez is Venezuela’s new light flyweight (51kg) talent who earned the gold medal at the 2023 AMBC American Boxing Championships.
Yoel Finol was bronze medallist already at the 2015 Panamerican Games when he was only 19 and he earned a silver at the Rio Olympics next year. The currently 27-year-old boxer is one of the top hopes of the country and he has strong chances to get his next Olympic spot for Paris 2024.
Jesus Nazareth Cova (63.5kg) robbed into the world of boxing only this year with his gold medal at the AMBC American Boxing Championships while Christian Palacio (71kg) has eight years of experience in the national team.
The former Panamerican Games silver medallist and Olympian boxer, the 31-year-old Albert Ramirez returned to the national team in time to compete in Chile and his professional record is 17-0.
