Hill and Pinales won the tightest contests at the Panamerican Games
The preliminary stage of the Panamerican Games delivered sensational contests in Santiago de Chile, many of these fights were close between the stars of the region.
The number of the available quotas is 30 for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, 16 for the women and 14 for the men.
The number of the participating boxers is altogether 174 including 76 female and 98 male athletes in Santiago de Chile.
Antigua & Barbuda, Argentina, Barbados, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Trinidad & Tobago, United States, Uruguay, Venezuela, and EAI individual athletes from Guatemala are the 27 participating countries in this Panamerican Games.
United States’ World Championships silver medallist Roscoe Hill won two rounds against Cuba’s Alejandro Claro in the men’s flyweight (51kg) and he bowed out one of his main rivals in the category.
Following their hectic contests, Dominican Republic’s Central American & Caribbean Games winner Cristian Pinales invested all of his power to beat United States’ World Champion Robby Gonzales at the men’s light heavyweight (80kg), causing the next sensation in the Panamerican Games.
Argentina’s Aldana Florencia Lopez, their bronze medallist from the Women’s World Championships, made fantastic efforts against Mexico’s quick Ingrid Alexa Gomez and she succeeded in their light flyweight (50kg) meeting.
Colombia’s Rio 2016 Olympics silver medallist Yuberjen Martinez had powerful shots already in the first round against Trinidad & Tobago’s Al Jaleel Jokhu and the referee stopped their bout in the third round.
United States’ Jennifer Lozano and Canada’s McKenzie Wright both won their contests over Ecuador’s Susan Meyli Aguas and Guatemala’s Aylin Jamez by 3:2 split decisions at the women’s light flyweight (50kg).
