The first boxers advanced to the semi-finals at the Panamerican Games
The first medals are revealed at the Panamerican Games in Santiago de Chile where the top nations had difficult contests.
The number of the available quotas is 30 for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, 16 for the women and 14 for the men.
The number of the participating boxers is altogether 174 including 76 female and 98 male athletes in Santiago de Chile.
Antigua & Barbuda, Argentina, Barbados, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Trinidad & Tobago, United States, Uruguay, Venezuela, and EAI individual athletes from Guatemala are the 27 participating countries in this Panamerican Games.
Venezuela’s Omailyn Alcala moved down two categories to the women’s featherweight (57kg) but she had the strength and speed to beat an experienced Guatemalan boxer, Leilany Reyes on Day5.
Canada’s Marie Al-Ahmadieh is a 19-year-old talent who had a successful campaign against United States’ Alyssa Mendoza in the preliminary stage of the women’s featherweight (57kg). The Canadian was better in the exchanges in the third round and the teenager eliminated one of the top rivals out of her way in Santiago de Chile.
United States’ World Champion Jahmal Harvey, Cuba’s Saidel Horta, Dominican Republic’s Jose Luis De Los Santos and Brazil’s American Champion Luiz Gabriel Oliveira Chalot earned the guaranteed medals at the men’s featherweight (57kg) following their clear successes.
Dominican Republic’s Cristian Javier Pinales eliminated the US World Champion, Robby Gonzales but he suffered a loss to Brazil’s Wanderley De Souza Pereira in the quarter-finals of the light heavyweight (80kg).
Cedrick Belony-Duliepre switched from Canada to Haiti and he is now a medallist at the Panamerican Games. He moved up to the light heavyweight (80kg) and demonstrated his power against Barbados’ Charles Antonio Cox.
