Eight women boxers qualified for the Olympics in Santiago
Eight female boxers qualified for the Olympic Games on the seventh day of boxing in Santiago de Chile
The number of the available quotas is 30 for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, 16 for the women and 14 for the men.
Antigua & Barbuda, Argentina, Barbados, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Trinidad & Tobago, United States, Uruguay, Venezuela, and EAI individual athletes from Guatemala are the 27 participating countries in this Panamerican Games.
Brazil’s Beatriz Ferreira is two-time Women’s World Champion and she is the best female boxer at the lightweight (60kg) who dominated her quarter-final over Costa Rica’s Pamela Sanchez therefore she has qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Her teammate, the experienced Jucielen Romeu can also prepares to her second Olympics, the featherweight (57kg) boxer was too smart for Peru’s Daisy Bamberger, securing a quota for Brazil.
Colombia’s Angie Paola Valdes, the medallist from the last Women’s World Boxing Championships, earned her first ever Olympic spot following her success over Venezuela’s Krisandy Rios at the lightweight (60kg).
Another Colombian female boxer, Valeria Arboleda succeeded against Chile’s young Tamara Maturana Soto and she also qualified for her first Olympics.
Mexico’s Marco Alonso Verde, the two-time AMBC American Champion, produced amazing second and third rounds and he was able to turn back his contest against United States’ World silver medallist Omari Jones at the light middleweight (71kg).
Dominican Republic’s Alexy Miguel De La Cruz and United States’ Emilio Garcia both are stars of the light welterweight (63.5kg) but they met already in the quarter-finals. The 20-year-old US boy gave in everything in the final round but the Dominican had better shots in the first and second periods.
