The preliminaries and the quarter-finals impressed at the Asian Youth & Junior Championships
The preliminaries and the quarter-finals are finished at the Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships in Astana where the local crowd saw more than 200 contests in the opening six competition days.
The venue of the championship is the Beeline Arena in Kazakhstan’s capital where the number of the boxers is 435.
The competition returned to Kazakhstan after seven years of break but the country is ready to host further championships in 2024.
Hong Kong, India, Iran, Iraq, Japan, Jordan, host Kazakhstan, South Korea, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Mongolia, Palestine, Philippines, Tajikistan, Thailand, Chinese Taipei, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, and Yemen are the 22 participating nations in the event.
Kazakhstan is one of the top boxing powers in the globe and their junior and youth boxers impressed in the front of their home crowd. Nurzhan Duman, the youth heavyweight (92kg) boxer, delivered their main surprise when he defeated Uzbekistan’s defending champion Aynazar Kenesbayev.
Uzbekistan won also 90% of their contests in the first period of the championships and their girls proved their strong development once again.
India has world-class junior and youth female squads but their youth male boxers also made the show in the first phase of the championships. Their Youth silver medallist Bhawna Sharma and Joon Bharat were the best during the previous competition days.
Vietnam, Chinese Taipei, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan have new sensations in the championships, they have high number of medallists in Astana.
Thailand has a new junior and youth team, many of their boxers are debutants in the championships but some of them reached the semi-finals in Astana. Their No.1
Kyrgyzstan lost their best youth boxers in the preliminaries and quarter-finals but their women’s talents are in strong progress, they got historic medals in both age groups following their development of female boxing.
