Asbarov gets a surprise win against Papin

Last Saturday, in the shadow of the Fury-Ngannou, an interesting Russian cruiserweight fight took place in Moscow between Aleksei Papin (15-2, 14KO) and Soslan Asbarov (5-0, 1KO).

In the second round Asbarov floored Papin with a left hook. For the rest of the fight Papin pressed forward and landed a few big shots, but Asbarov kept his distance and outboxed his rival. The judges awarded Asbarov the win (96-93, 99-90, 98-91). Asbarov, who only turned pro last year, thus defeated another top fighter after Dmitry Kudryashov and Brandon Glanton, which will probably put in Top 15 ranking of one of three big world federations, WBA, IBF or WBO.
