Nine Kazakh gold medals in the youth finals of the Asian Youth & Junior Championships

The Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships has finished with its 25 youth finals in Astana, Kazakhstan where four nations shared the titles in the 2005-2006 age group. Uzbekistan’s Oltinoy Sotimboyeva and Kazakhstan’s Torekhan Sabyrkhan were named as the Best Youth Boxers.

Hong Kong, India, Iran, Iraq, Japan, Jordan, host Kazakhstan, South Korea, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Mongolia, Palestine, Philippines, Tajikistan, Thailand, Chinese Taipei, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, and Yemen were the 22 participating nations in the event.

The host Kazakhstan topped the youth medal standings with 9 gold medals, ahead of Uzbekistan’s 8 and India’s 6. Altogether 15 countries bagged at least one medal in the youth age group in the championships in Astana.

India’s Bhawna Sharma had a loss to Uzbekistan’s Gulsevar Ganiyeva in the final of the 2022 Youth World Boxing Championships but she mad a revenge in Astana and earned the first female gold medal.

Uzbekistan’s Zilolakhon Yusufova, India’s Tanu, Kazakhstan’s Ulzhan Sarsenbek, India’s Nikita Chand, Kazakhstan’s Bakyt Seidish and Uzbekistan’s Oysha Toirova became multiple Asian Champion in Astana.

Japan’s Seiya Nakayama defeated all of his four rivals at the men’s minimumweight (48kg) including the favourites, Tajikistan’s Meroj Sufijonov and Kazakhstan’s Beksultan Boranbek. His teammate, Raito Kataoka also had a hard road to the finals where he won a tactical battle against Iraq’s lone finalist, Abbas Qasim.

Uzbekistan’s Samandar Olimov, Shavkatjon Boltayev, Fazliddin Erkinboyev, Javokhir Ummataliyev and Abdulaziz Abdurakhmonov all impressed in the preparation tournaments therefore their gold medals were not surprises in Astana.

Kazakhstan’s Bakhtiyar Anarbayev and the two-time Asian Junior Champion Torekhan Sabyrkhan were the bests from the host nation, both of them proved their amazing technical skills in the finals.
