Hungary, Italy, Morocco, Spain and England shared the male titles at the Boxam Tournament

The Boxam Elite Tournament has finished with its 11 male finals in La Nucia where Hungary, Italy, Morocco, Spain and England shared the gold medals.

Wales’ Scott Richards won a tournament in Spain in 2023 and the young talent tried to repeat that performance against Hungary’s Martin Virban at the flyweight (51kg). The Welsh boy had the height advantage in the battle of the southpaw boxers and he worked from longer range in the first round. The 25-year-old Hungarian caught the Welshman with heavy hooks in the first and second rounds therefore he had the advantage after six minutes of fight. Virban did not make any huge risks in the last round and his patient style of boxing paid off today in La Nucia, taking the first male title of the tournament.

France’s Billal Bennama and Italy’s Federico Serra are stars at the bantamweight (54kg) and they made a fantastic battle in the final day. The taller Bennama tried to keep the powerful Italian on long in the first round but Serra increased his speed in the second. The 29-year-old Italian caught the French star with heavy punches in the end of the second round therefore only the final three minutes were the decisive between them. Serra made a great finish and he caused a small surprise with his split decision success over the French No.1.

Hungary’s Roland Veres and Ewart Andres Marin made a strong tactical first round in the final of the featherweight (57kg) today. Veres and Marin both had similar number of shots and the final verdict was depended on their performance in the last period. Marin moved forward more in the third round but it was perfect for the Hungarian who won this important final bout in La Nucia.

Spain’s promising light heavyweight (80kg) boxer Pablo Coy had strong progress in the previous one year and he looked confident in the first round against France’s Raphael Monny. The 23-year-old Spaniard enjoyed the support of the local crowd and he managed to win the final with excellent performance.
