Mr. Boris Van der Vorst is the first President of World Boxing

The 1st Congress of World Boxing was in Frankfurt, Germany this weekend and the previous Dutch President, Mr. Boris Van der Vorst has been elected as the 1st President of WB.

Mr. Boris Van der Vorst secured 63% of the votes in the Presidential elections against Mrs. Elise Seignolle of the United States in Frankfurt.

Altogether 26 out of the 27 World Boxing Member Federations participated in the 1st Congress in Germany’s heart.

Mr. Ryan O’Shea of Canada, Mr. Matt Holt of England and Mrs. Dinah Glykidis of Australia have been elected as Vice-Presidents of World Boxing.

Mr. Michael Mueller of Germany, Mr. Victorico Vargas of Philippines, Mrs. Susanne Karrlander of Sweden and Mr. Marcos De Brito are members of the Executive Board.

Mr. Hernan Salvo of Argentina will lead the Sport and Competition Committee as a Chair, Dr. Armando Sanchez of the United States is the Chairman of the Medical & Anti-Doping Committee. Mrs. Julia Felton of Australia became the Chairwoman of the Finance & Audit Committee of World Boxing.

The 11 winners of the elections will form a 14-person Executive Board together with the athletes’ representatives, Lauren Price of Wales and Richard Torrez Jr. of United States and the Secretary General, Mr. Simon Toulson.

World Boxing plans to standardize the competitions, hosting them every year or two years in the same period. Fair play, logical competition structure, consistent competition calendar, transparent bidding procedures and clear organisational standards are the key factors for the upcoming events.

The World Boxing’s first World Boxing Championships will take place for the U19 boxers between August and November 2024.

The opening stage of the World Boxing Cup will be held in Sheffield, England on January 16-21 and the event is the first elite competition in 2024.

World Boxing’s main goal is to save boxing’s Olympic future and to involve back the sport to the official program of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
