Strong super heavy boxers shined at the Pacific Games

The boxing tournament of the Pacific Games had knockouts, stoppages in the second day in Honiara, Solomon Islands and the super heavyweight was sensational.

The finals will be taking place in the tropical island in two competition days, on December 1 and 2.

Following an Aussie boxer’s Yusuf Chothia’s success at the flyweight (51kg), their No.1, the Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist Harry Garside eliminated a dangerous rival, Papua New Guinea’s experienced John Ume at the light welterweight (63.5kg).

Solomon Islands’ Pemberton Lele had the experience to eliminate Federated States of Micronesia’s Alexander Eliam Jr. at the light welterweight (63.5kg). Fiji’s Elia Rokobuli was too strong for Nauru’s Mathew Martin and he stopped his rival in the second round.

Kalani Marra is only 19-year-old but he fought out his place in the elite national team in New Zealand this year. The Youth World Championships competitor landed lethal shots in the third round and he bowed out Samoa’s Lautofa Lutu out of his way.

Wendell Stanley is one of the tallest boxers at the light middleweight (71kg) in the whole world and he used up his physical advantages against Solomon Islands’ Dicks Lio. The local boxer had brave attempts in the first round but the New Zealander increased the tempo and he stopped his opponent in the second.

Nauru’s Lachlan Halstead delighted the small island when he eliminated Tuvalu’s Fiu Tui in their light middleweight (71kg) meeting. Australia’s Shannan Davey had a difficult contest against Cook Islands’ Tawhirimatea Toheriri-Hallet but he managed to win it by 4:1 split decision.

New Zealand’s returning boxer, Patrick Mailata (+92kg) knocked out American Samoa’s Jadan Liu in the first round in Honiara. Samoa’s Elijah Mercury-Leafa, Tonga’s Amato Mataika and Australia’s new sensation, Teremoana Teremoana all advanced to the semi-finals at the super heavyweight (+92kg) winning their contests by RSC.
