Yoshida upsets Bridges, wins IBF World title
Australian Ebanie Bridges has lost her IBF Bantamweight world title in a major upset on Saturday night in San Francisco. “Blonder Bomber” was beaten by Japanese Miyo Yoshida.
Yoshida was dominant, and was hitting constantly. In the end judges scored the fight clear in her favor. Judge Lou Moret scored the fight 99:91, Pat Russell 97:93 and Zachary Young 99:91.
Bridges won the title on March 26 last year, beating Maria Cecilia Roman.
“Absolutely gutted, it wasn’t my night. Big congrats to my opponent, she was the better fighter tonight,” Bridges wrote on social media. “Beautiful & humble, single mother. Seeing how much that win meant to her & her daughter did give me some warmth inside. A loss doesn’t define me. I have no quit, it’s all learning and I’ll be back better & stronger. Thank you to everyone who supports me. I love you all.”
Yoshida with the win became two-weight division champion. She was WBO champion in super-flyweight.
