The next generation shined at the Hungarian Elite National Championships

Twenty-four winners celebrated their gold medals at the 100th anniversary Hungarian Elite National Championships in Budapest.

The Aladar Gerevich Sport Complex was the host of the Hungarian Elite National Championships in Budapest.

Altogether 165 elite boxers including 55 girls competed for the 24 available gold medals in the National Championships.

The European Games competitor Petra Mezei (50kg), Hungary’s top U22 boxer Hanna Lakotar (54kg), Rebeka Dobos (57kg), the ex-Kazakh Asian Championships silver medallist Vladislava Kukhta (60kg), the Paris Olympian Luca Hamori (66kg) and the two-time European Youth Champion Veronika Nakota (75kg) won the female Olympic categories in the National Championships.

Lakotar, Kukhta and Nakota dominated their finals in the event while the European U22 Championships silver medallist Reka Hoffmann won one of the top title contests against the European Youth Champion Zsofia Szira at the heavyweight (+81kg).

Timea Nagy, their former two-times Women’s World Championships bronze medallist, earned her 16th gold medal in the Hungarian Elite National Championships and her successful final over Nora Komjathi was her last contest in her long career.

Istvan Szaka returned to the flyweight (51kg) and he defeated both of his main rivals in the National Championships such as Martin Virban and Attila Bernath.

Roland Veres, the European Championships bronze medallist, was one of the stars in this National event, but he suffered an unexpected loss to the 19-year-old Valentin Koloszar in the final of the men’s featherweight (57kg).

The next generation members, such as the European Junior Champion 18-year-old Levente Olah (60kg), Rafael Buza (67kg), the Youth World silver medallist Levente Gemes (71kg) and Marko Simon (80kg) won their weight categories.

The Youth World bronze medallist Levente Kiss (92kg) and the returning professional veteran, Istvan Bernath (+92kg) won the heaviest weight categories in the Hungarian National Championships.
