Schwarz vs. Merhy for EBU heavyweight title?

German heavyweight Tom Schwarz (29-1) is supposed to fight Belgium’s Ryad Merhy (32-2) for vacant EBU European heavyweight title.

Title became vacant, after German Agit Kabayel decided to relinquish title and concentrate on bigger fights.

Kabayel got a surprise victory last month in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, beating by TKO 4 the until then undefeated Arslanbek Makhmudov.

Schwarz was official challenger of Kabayel. After title became vacant, search begun for another opponent for Schwarz. And Merhy accepted the offer.

It’s supposed to be held a purse bid for the rights to organize the fight. Purse bid will be held on January 22.

Merhy last fought in December last year, getting a victory by split decision over Tony Yoka of France.
