The Boxam Tournament opened with 34 contests
The Boxam Elite Tournament opened with 34 contests in the city of La Nucia where an exciting competition is running in Spain.
Spain’s Marta Lopez del Arbol met her teammate, Maria del Carmen Romero in an important preliminary contest which decided the participation between them at the women’s bantamweight (54kg) in the 1st World Olympic Qualifier. The first won their close contest due to her great start and she won this selection bout in La Nucia.
Hungary made a perfect competition day in La Nucia, all of their three boxers won their openers against strong opponents. Hanna Lakotar defeated India’s Sunita at the women’s bantamweight (54kg) and their two flyweight (51kg) boys such as Istvan Szaka and Attila Bernath eliminated their rivals from Trinidad & Tobago and Kyrgyzstan.
Spain’s European Champion Martin Molina and his super talented teammate, the European Youth Champion Rafael Lozano met in a crucial battle at the men’s flyweight (51kg) on Day1. The 19-year-old southpaw surprised Molina with his speed in the first round but the older rival returned in the second in different rhythm and he was able to make a U-turn in this important selection bout.
France’s World bronze medallist Samuel Kistohurry moved forward against Refugee Team’s Ewart Andres Marin, a 19-year-old ex-Cuban talent. The French featherweight (57kg) boxer had a hard job against Marin already in the first round and he tried to keep Kistohurry on long. The veteran French made a tactical mistake in this contest and Marin was able to box from his safest distance achieving a surprise result in La Nucia.
Mexico’s Andrey Bonilla impressed in his opening contest, the featherweight (57kg) talent bowed out Trinidad & Tobago’s Anthony Joseph in a one-sided bout with excellent technical skills. His teammate, Miguel Angel Martinez has already qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and he had the strength to eliminate Kyrgyzstan’s Asian Youth Champion Almaz Orozbekov at the light welterweight (63.5kg).
