Mexico enjoyed a fantastic day at the Boxam Tournament

The Mexican team had a fantastic performance in the second competition day at the Boxam Elite Tournament in La Nucia and Italy’s Diego Lenzi also made a surprise in the event.

Spain’s Laura Fuertes has already qualified for the Paris Olympic Games and she began her direct preparation for the event. The Spaniard eliminated her first rival on Day1 and she met Mexico’s Ingrid Alexa Gomez, a 20-year-old American Champion, and from the second round, Fuertes could control the quarter-final of the light flyweight (50kg).

Mexico’s Guadelupe Solis faced a regional opponent at the women’s lightweight (60kg) in La Nucia, Trinidad & Tobago’s Tianna Guy. Both boxers knew each other very well and the Mexican was slightly better in the first and second rounds to win their meeting.

Her teammate, the Youth World Champion Ari Bonilla impressed with his amazing technical skills against Hungary’s Attila Bernath and the 18-year-old Mexican joined the semi-finals of the men’s flyweight (51kg). Another Mexican boxer, the experienced Esmeralda Falcon bowed out also a Hungarian talent, Petra Szabo, at the women’s lightweight (60kg).

Scotland’s Isa Akram is a 19-year-old talent with only 65 bouts during his career but he was able to keep the focus until the last gong against Spain’s Juan Pantoja at the men’s lightweight (60kg), delivering a small surprise on Day2.

Spain’s Frank Martinez eliminated his main national rival, the veteran Youba Ndiaye Sissokho on Day1 and he continued his winning path against a former star, the Youth Olympic Games winner Atichai Phoemsap of Thailand.

Italy’s Diego Lenzi is relatively newcomer in the international events but he shocked the European Games winner Delicious Orie from England. The Italian super heavyweight (+92kg) was aggressive from the first seconds and his stamina guaranteed a 3:2 split decision success, the surprise of the day for the Italian.
