Dubois vs. Merhy for the EBU title?

The European Boxing Union (EBU) had initially established January 30 at noon as the cutoff time for purse bids for the vacant heavyweight title fight between Germany’s Tom Schwarz (29-1) and Belgium’s Ryad Merhy (32-2).

However, just a few hours prior to the deadline, Tom Schwarz decided to withdraw from this bout.

For a brief period, Ryad Merhy found himself as the sole challenger. Shortly thereafter, Daniel Dubois (20-2) stepped up, and he is now a co-challenger alongside Merhy. The EBU has now scheduled February 13 as the new deadline for purse bids.

Both fighters are coming off impressive victories. Merhy recently defeated the Frenchman Tony Yoka, while Dubois secured a stoppage victory over Jarrell Miller.
