Amazing Italians in the day of the semi-finals at the Boxam Tournament

The Italians proved an outstanding fourth competition day at the Boxam Elite Tournament in La Nucia today when the semi-finals were on the official schedule.

The Italians impressed in the women’s semi-finals, firstly their Sirine Charaabi defeated a local girl, Marta Lopez and she advanced to the title bout of the bantamweight (54kg). Another Italian, the World Champion Alessia Mesiano worked well enough against Mexico’s Guadelupe Solis and she is now finalist at the lightweight (60kg).

Belgium’s Oshin Derieuw claimed a silver medal at the European Games and she is already a Paris Olympian. The former professional boxer analysed her French opponent well enough and she had the routine to beat the 19-year-old Maelys Richol in the semi-finals of the women’s welterweight (66kg).

Hungary’s Istvan Szaka has international experiences since 2013 but after a few poor years he returned at the flyweight in the previous months. The Hungarian surprised Spain’s European Champion Martin Molina in the first and second rounds which were enough to cause one of the top surprises of the day.

Italy’s Federico Serra is a real teacher in the ring, he ruled most of the exchanges against a 19-year-old Scotsman, Aaron Cullen today. Serra won all of the three rounds in this bantamweight semi-final against a future hope which means he can box for the title Portugal’s Marcio Cardoso.

Mexico’s Youth World Champion Ari Bonilla was near to reach the finals of the flyweight (51kg), but his brother, Andrey bowed out a tough English boxer, Ellis Trowbridge at the featherweight (57kg).

Scotland’s Sonny Kerr is still in the transition period from the youth to the elite age group but he impressed in the semi-finals of the welterweight (67kg) in La Nucia. His semi-final against Spain’s Fernando Pino was only his second elite contest during his career but he win this contest.

Italy’s Diego Lenzi is in impressive form at the super heavyweight (+92kg) who knocked out his Polish rival in the first round.
