Viitanen, Heijnen and Angelsen won their weight classes at the 14th Golden Girl Box Cup

The 14th edition of the Golden Girl Box Cup amazed all of the participating teams and boxers in the city of Boras which is located in South Sweden.  

There were 43 contests in the opening day of boxing on Friday and the local organizers divided the matches into three different rings. Almost record number of 115 bouts featured on Day2 including 12 top semi-finals and 73 contests were held on the last day of boxing.

Czech Republic’s Claudia Totova was silver medallist at the European Youth Boxing Championships and she moved down to the light flyweight (50kg). The 20-year-old Czech was too smart for Matilde Johansen and she impressed in the new edition of the Golden Girl.

Sweden has two top international boxers at the elite bantamweight (54kg) and their veteran Sara Svensson worked hard from the first seconds to beat Finland’s European Championships bronze medallist Emma Jokiaho in the final.

Finland’s Vilma Viitanen is their best female boxer in the national team who has eight years of international experiences despite of her age of 22. The European silver medallist had a fantastic and remarkable battle against Netherlands’ Youth World Champion Maud Van der Toorn and she won their elite featherweight (57kg) final.

Netherlands’ best elite boxer, the World Championships bronze medallist Chelsey Heijnen had also a crucial final battle in this Golden Girl and she had to do her very best to beat Czech Republic’s European silver medallist Lenka Bernardova at the lightweight (60kg).

The Golden Girl from 2023, Norway’s Madeleine Angelsen defended her throne in Boras after beating Netherlands’ European Games quarter-finalist Luna Beeloo at the welterweight (66kg). Her teammate, the World Youth bronze medallist Sofia Stigen Sorensen dominated the heavyweight (+81kg) against Martine Kjartansdottir.

Dolly Sambrook, the European Junior Champion Ruby White, Nancy Shepherd, and Pippa Ann Richards were the best boxers in the youth age group.
