Kazuki Anaguchi has passed away

Amidst all the fuss over the postponement of the Tyson Fury – Oleksandr Usyk fight, the sad news that Japan’s Kazuki Anaguchi (6-1, 2KOs) had passed away was lost.

Anaguchi fought a spectacular bout with Seiya Tsutsumi (10-0-2, 7KOs) for the Japanese bantamweight title on the undercard of the Naoya Inoue – Marlon Tapales event on December 26. Although Anaguchi controlled most of the fight, he was knocked down four times and Tsutsumi took the victory. Anaguchi had to be assisted to the dressing room and was rushed to hospital, where he lost consciousness and required emergency cranial surgery to remove a subdural hematoma from his brain. The 23-year-old fighter died on February 2, according to the Japan Boxing Commission.
