Teofimo Lopez barely manages to defend his WBO super-lightweight title

Teofimo Lopez (20-1) survived a slow and defensive fight against Jamaine Ortiz (17-2-1) and just barely defended his WBO World super-lightweight title.

Ortiz frustrated Lopez with bouncing around the ring during the entire fight and causing him to miss most of punches.

In the end judges Tim Cheatham and David Sutherland scored the bout 115:113 in favor of Lopez and judge Steve Weisfeld scored the fight 117:111 in favor of Lopez also.

“We cannot for one second claim these people, these fighters that don’t want to come and fight,” Lopez said with boos reigning down in the arena. “You go to blood, sweat and tears … if you ain’t ready for this life, get the f**k out of my sport. I am a champion. I bleed for this. I sweat for this. I cry for this, every time.”

Ortiz said that he believes he won the fight.

“I stuck to the game plan,” Ortiz said on ESPN. “I was doing good, I thought I was winning, that’s what I believe, I believe I won the fight. What can I say, I came up on the short end of the stick once again.”

In undercard Keyshawn Davis (10-0) stopped Jose Pedraza (29-6-1) in the fight for IBF USBA, WBC USA and WBO Inter-Continental lightweight titles.
