Nine nations earned gold medals at the 75th Strandja Memorial Tournament  

The 75th Strandja Memorial Tournament was a great success in Sofia, Bulgaria and 19 champions celebrated their titles after the final bouts.

Altogether 83 women and 178 men boxers participated in the 75th Strandja Memorial Tournament which is the oldest European international competition.  

The traditional event was a great opportunity to prepare actively before the 1st World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event.

Uzbekistan, China, Ireland, Kyrgyzstan, India, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Bulgaria and Georgia shared the gold medals in the 75th Strandja Memorial Tournament.

Uzbekistan’s Asian U22 Champion Sabina Bobokulova caused the main surprise in the day of the finals in Sofia. Following her success over China’s Asian Games winner Wu Yu, she defeated also India’s two-time World Champion Nikhat Zareen in the final of the women’s light flyweight (50kg).

Bulgaria’s Stanimira Petrova and Svetlana Kamenova both qualified already for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games through the European Games. The host nation’s two prides triumphed over Asian rivals in the finals, China’s Chang Yuan and Tajikistan’s Mizhgona Samadova.

Ireland’s European Champion Aoife O’Rourke impressed in the day of the finals, she had a hard battle against Thailand’s Baison Manikon at the women’s middleweight (75kg). China’s Yang Wenlu (60kg) and Yang Liu (66kg) won the remaining female titles in Sofia.

Next to Uzbekistan’s stars as Abdumalik Khalokov (60kg) and Ikboljon Kholdarov (71kg), their teenagers, Jakhongir Zokirov (+92kg), Khujanazar Nortojiyev (54kg) and Javokhir Ummataliyev (75kg) also succeeded in the Bulgarian capital.

The host nation’s European Champion Radoslav Rosenov controlled his final bout over his Uzbek rival while Kyrgyzstan’s Anvarzhan Khodzhiyev (48kg), Georgia’s Georgiy Kushitashvili (92kg) and India’s Amit Panghal (51kg) also impressed.

After the strong Strandja Memorial Tournament, the Bulgarian Boxing Federation will welcome the National Federations in a joint international training camp.
