Hrgovic is Usyk’s Plan B

When Tyson Fury pulled out of the undisputed heavyweight world title fight against Oleksandr Usyk due to injury, Usyk didn’t want to see his training go to waste and wanted a replacement opponent. IBF mandatory challenger Filip Hrgovic was open to the idea, but in the end the Saudi organizers decided to move the whole event to May 18. According to Usyk’s team, if Fury refuses to fight again, this time Hrgovic will surely step in to replace him.

“I hope Usyk gets the chance to settle the score with Fury on May 18th, but if he continues to run away, we have a provision in the agreement to replace Fury with Filip Hrgovic. Hrgovic is the backup opponent, so the show will go on regardless of whether he fights, as confirmed by His Excellency Turki Al-Ash-Sheikh.” – said Sergey Lapin to British Boxing News.
