Hofstad and Shiha are Norway’s first Olympians in boxing since 1996

Norway made historic results in the afternoon session of the last day in the 1st World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event in Busto Arsizio.

Spain’s Emmanuel Reyes was quarter-finalist at the Tokyo Olympics and he advanced to the key quota bout in Busto Arsizio. The Spanish heavyweight (92kg) boxer proved his best performance with perfect timing against Serbia’s ex-Russian Sadam Magomedov in the bout of the veterans. Reyes knew his opponent well enough to use the best strategy against the Serbian and he qualified for his second Olympics.

Great Britain’s Patrik Brown used his excellent draw and he controlled the exchanges against Poland’s European Games bronze medallist Mateusz Bereznicki today. His confident style of boxing delivered a clear success for the sensational British boxer.

Italy’s Diego Lenzi eliminated tough opponents during his road to the quota bout but in the last competition day he had the powerful performance against Bahrain’s Olympian Denis Latypov. The small Italian super heavyweight (+92kg) boxer controlled all of the three rounds and he exceeded the expectations with his quota for Paris.

China’s Danabieke Bayikewuzi delivered fantastic victories in the previous one year and the super heavyweight (+92kg) boxer used his athletic skills to catch Norway’s Egyptian-descent Omar Shiha and he had a tight advantage after first round. The Chinese boxer injured in the second round and the ringside doctor confirmed the success of the Norwegian who became his nation’s first Olympian in boxing since the 1996 edition.

Shiha’s teammate, the Youth World Champion Sunniva Hofstad was fantastic in the women’s middleweight (75kg) quota bout against Sweden’s Love Holgersson and the referee confirmed her RSC success in the second round, claiming Norway’s second quota.

Germany’s Nelvie Tiafack defeated Serbia’s Dusan Veletic in a tight bout while France’s Djamili Dini Aboudou Moindze edged out Canada’s Alexis Barriere in the next super heavyweight (+92kg) quota bout.
