Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania, Italy and Wales shared the titles at the Danas Pozniakas Youth Tournament

Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania, Italy and Wales shared the gold medals at the 19th Danas Pozniakas Youth Tournament which was held in Lithuania’s capital in Vilnius.

Boxers from the 2006-2007 age groups could attend in the 19th Danas Pozniakas Youth Tournament in Vilnius which was a preparation event before the forthcoming European Youth Boxing Championships.

The competition was named after Lithuania’s national boxing hero Mr. Danas Pozniakas who claimed gold medal at the Mexico Olympic Games representing the Soviet Union and also crowned three-times in the history of the European Championships.

Ukraine’s Yaroslav Khokhlach won the first title in the competition, he defeated a local boy, Raimondas Trapulionis at the minimumweight (48kg).  His teammate, Artem Stolyarchuk also defeated a Lithuanian boxer, Nojus Stanisauskas at the bantamweight (54kg) final.

Poland had excellent talents at the flyweight (51kg) in the previous years and their Mateusz Szczoczarz continued their winning path in Vilnius. The young Polish defeated Italy’s Sasha Mencaroni in the final despite his opponent competed already three European Championships during his career.

Renat Krepstul was born in a boxing family and the Lithuanian talent continued the family traditions following his outstanding success at the light welterweight (63.5kg) over Vladyslav Chyniuk of Ukraine.

Italy’s Cristian Karol Harpula had disadvantage on the scorecards against Wales’ Milwyn Lloyd after one round but his heavy shots delivered a success for the welterweight (67kg) boxer. Aharow Corowa (92kg) and Vincenzo Guida + 92kg achieved Italy’s second and third gold medals in the last finals of the tournament.

The second Welsh finalist, Daniel Pitt had a superb performance in his title bout and he defeated Ukraine’s Vitaliy Molchanov at the cruiserweight (86kg). Ukraine’s Bogdan Gorgol (71kg) and Adam Al-Sirri (80kg) stopped their final opponents quickly in the first round.
