Legendary boxing matches – Legendary boxers: The highest boxing PPV numbers

Author: Zizi

There are matches, which are never to be forgotten, and there are boxing icons, who are going to stay with us for eternity.

I wrote in my previous article about the largest attendance at a boxing match but I did not mention the so-called PPV numbers. Outside of Europe, especially in the US, Pay-Per-View is the only way to watch the fight if you do not want to see the boxing match on the spot. It means, you have to pay a fee to a service provider and later you can enjoy the boxing event live from the comfort of your home.

Based on the above, the highest professional boxing PPV numbers were generated by the fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao in 2015. The match was in Las Vegas (US) and thanks to their fame, the results of both men achieved and the fact the crowd wanted this super bout for years, the interest was enormous, despite the fact both athletes were past their peak.

There were 4.6 million PPV purchases at around $100 each, totaling 410 million US dollars revenue. Fun fact: On the list of the highest boxing PPV numbers of all time, you can find Floyd Mayweather Jr. on the first four places. The all-time second PPV number was against Conor McGregor in 2017 with 4.3 million PPV’s, the third was against Oscar De La Hoya in 2007 with 2.48 million and in the fourth place was the fight against Saul “Canelo” Álvarez in 2013 with 2.2 million.
