Strong day for Nigeria, Zambia, and Ghana in Accra

The first part of the semi-finals delivered great battles in the boxing tournament of the All Africa Games in Accra, Ghana on Day6.

The All Africa Games was planning to host on August 2023 but due to economic reasons, the multisport event moved to March 2024.

Tunisia’s Wafa Hafsi is an experienced boxer in the international stage but her easy success over Zambia’s African Champion Margaret Tembo was an impressive result on Day6. The North African will now meet for the title of the women’s minimumweight (48kg) Algeria’s Fatiha Mansouri in Accra.

Algeria’s Roumaysa Boualam is one of the best female boxers in the African continent who impressed in her semi-final bout as well. The African Champion had a tough opponent in the last four but she managed to beat Morocco’s Yasmine Mouttaki in Accra where she can now prepares to her final against Nigeria’s Zainab Adeshina.

Morocco’s Olympian boxer Rabab Cheddar was highly confident in her semi-final contest against Tunisia’s Chadha Jlassi at the flyweight (52kg). The Moroccan won their meeting by unanimous decision and she will face in the final with Ethiopia’s Bethelhem Gayiza who eliminated DR Congo’s Gisele Nyembo Muamba.

The Nigerian female boxers proved their best in the first part of the semi-finals and following Adeshina, two further girls joined the finals. Nene Joy Ojo defeated Tunisia’s Olympian and team captain Khouloud Hlimi at the featherweight (57kg) while Patricia Mbata was stronger than Mozambique’s World medallist Rady Adosinda Gramane was.

Among the Nigerian male boxers, the Paris Olympians such as Dolapo Omole (57kg) and Adam Olaore (92kg) both secured their places in the finals of their weight categories.

The Zambians had also strong performance in the sixth competition day, their Andrew Chilata (60kg) and Gerald Kabinda (67kg) both joined the finals.

Ghana’s technician Mohammed Aryeetey (48kg) and Commonwealth Games silver medallist Joseph Commey (60kg) are finalists on home soil.
