Dream finals in several weight categories at the All African Games
The second part of the semi-finals were exciting in the boxing tournament of the All Africa Games in Accra, Ghana where Nigeria and Zambia continued their top performance.
Nigeria’s Shukura Kareem is only 18-year-old but she defeated Kazakhstan’s World medallist Zhaina Shekerbekova in Busto Arsizio earlier this month. The Nigerian teenager is unstoppable in the All African Games as well and she was too strong for Kenya’s Martha Faki in the last four of the women’s bantamweight (54kg).
The Egyptian female boxers progressed rapidly in the recent two years and their Rahma Mahfouz Ibrahim Mohamed reached her career highlight with a success over Tunisia’s Azza Nahdi. The 22-year-old Egyptian marched into the finals of the women’s lightweight (60kg) to meet Nigeria’s favourite, Cynthia Ogunsemilore.
Mozambique’s World Championships bronze medallist top female boxer, Alcinda Panguana did not underestimate her semi-final opponent, DR Congo’s Brigitte Mbabi and she managed to beat her rival with excellent performance. Panguane will be boxing for the title of the light middleweight (70kg) with Nigeria’s Blessing Oraekwe.
Zambia’s best boxer, Patrick Chinyemba is already a Paris Olympian and the main favourite of the men’s flyweight (51kg) joined the final of the All Africa Games. The Zambian was quicker than Ghana’s Theophilous Allotey and Chinyemba is ready to beat South Africa’s Lubabalo Lusizi for the title as well.
Another strong Zambian, Mwengo Mwale stopped his semi-final opponent, Gabon’s veteran Franck Mombey in a one-sided bout and he will now face with Ghana’s Amadu Mohammed in the bantamweight (54kg) final. His teammate, Emmanuel Katema is also a finalist following his unexpected success over Algeria’s Jugurtha Ait Bekka at the light welterweight (63.5kg).
The dream final between Egypt’s Omar Elsayed and DR Congo’s Steve Kulenguluka Mbiya has accomplished in the men’s light middleweight (71kg).
