Two teenagers as Enekes and Caruso caused enormous surprises at the Great Silk Way Tournament
Two teenagers, Hungary’s Dominik Enekes and Italy’s Paolo Caruso caused enormous sensations at the Great Silk Way Tournament in Baku, Azerbaijan on Day2.
Eleven countries are participating in the Great Silk Way Tournament such as Azerbaijan, Hungary, Iran, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Poland, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
Hungary’s Dominik Enekes is only 19-year-old but he maintained the best fighting distance well enough in the end of the first round against Russia’s European Cup competitor, Aleksey Skomorokha. The Hungarian teenager has just moved up to the light middleweight (71kg) but due to his second round, he caused the main sensation of the day.
An important selection bout was held between two Azeri boxers at the men’s light welterweight (63.5kg). Tayfur Aliyev, the Tokyo Olympian, looked fresh enough to beat his veteran and former World Champion opponent, Javid Chalabiyev.
Kyrgyzstan’s national team member Sanzhai Seidakmatov is a strong boxer but knockouts are very rare at the featherweight (57kg). The 24-year-old boxer needed less than two minutes to knock out Tajikistan’s Mukhammadali Khasanov in their quick bout.
Azerbaijan’s Shamil Askerov impressed in the previous competitions as well and the former European U22 Champion had the focus until the last gong, to beat Uzbekistan’s Kodir Akhtamov. The next Azeri favourite at the featherweight (57kg), Umud Rustamov lost to a stronger Uzbek, Khudoynazar Fayzov.
Another young Hungarian, Istvan Kreko also succeeded in the second competition day, he bowed out Azerbaijan’s Fagan Mammadov at the light heavyweight (80kg). Uzbekistan’s teenage duo, Fazliddin Erkinboyev and Rakhmatullo Boymatov also advanced to the semi-finals in this weight class.
Italy’s 19-year-old Paolo Caruso, the 2022 Youth World silver medallist, was quicker than Uzbekistan’s strong puncher, Odiljon Aslonov, a winner of several international competitions, and the youngster eliminated a top rival at the cruiserweight (86kg).
