Fantastic final line-ups at the Great Silk Way Tournament

The women’s semi-finals and further important male contests were on the official program of the third day of boxing at the Great Silk Way Tournament in Baku, Azerbaijan.  

Marjona Savriyeva switched from Uzbekistan to Azerbaijan last year and she impressed in the third day of boxing at the women’s light flyweight (50kg). She defeated her main national rival, the European bronze medallist Anakhanim Ismayilova and she has the chance to compete in the 2nd World Qualifier.

Azerbaijan’s promising Zeynab Rakhimova will turn to 21 this year but the bantamweight (54kg) boxer caused a surprise on Day3. She eliminated Italy’s experienced Olena Savchuk by split decision and she will meet for the title Uzbekistan’s Shakhina Nematova.

Hungary’s Vivien Budai, the former European Games quarter-finalist, moved down to the lightweight (60kg) and she won all of the three rounds against Azerbaijan’s Aysu Devrishova in the last four. The Hungarian is expecting a hard final battle against Italy’s Tokyo Olympian Rebecca Nicoli who was born also in 1999.

Uzbekistan’s two-time Asian Champion Saidjamshid Jafarov was too smart for Russia’s Sergey Sergeyev and advanced to the semi-finals of the middleweight (75kg). Azerbaijan’s Olympic bronze medallist Kamran Shakhsuvarly and Uzbekistan’s Youth World Champion Javokhir Ummataliyev both joined the last four in this strong weight class.

The Uzbek youngsters such as Rakhmatullo Boymatov and Fazliddin Erkinboyev will meet for the title of the men’s light heavyweight (80kg). The cruiserweight (86kg) final will be held between Russia’s Khasmagomed Dzhavatkhanov and Azerbaijan’s Paris Olympian Murad Allakhverdiyev.

The dream finals are accomplished in the two heaviest male weight categories in Baku where Azerbaijan’s Loren Berto Alfonso and Kazakhstan’s Sagyndyk Togambay will meet at the heavyweight (92kg). The two Uzbek stars, the Olympic Champion Bakhodir Jalolov and Jakhongir Zokirov will be boxing for the gold medal of the super heavyweight (+92kg).
