Prisciandaro, Nicoli and Canfora are Italy’s gold medallists at the Great Silk Way Tournament

Italy earned three female gold medals in the fourth day of boxing at the Great Silk Way Tournament in Baku.

The Great Silk Way Tournament is a preparation event for the upcoming European Elite Boxing Championships, and the 2nd World Olympic Qualifier.

Italy’s European U22 Champion Erika Prisciandaro became the first winner in the Great Silk Way Tournament in Baku, she defeated a young local boxer, Mekhpara Mammadova at the women’s minimumweight (48kg) final.

Marjona Savriyeva, who switched from Uzbekistan to Azerbaijan, defeated both of her national rivals as Anakhanim Ismayilova and Gunel Rakhimova which victories were big steps for her on the road to the 2nd World Olympic Qualifier.

Azerbaijan’s second gold medal in the female part of the competition was achieved by Zeynab Rakhimova, the Women’s World Championships competitor, who defeated Uzbekistan’s 19-year-old Shakhina Nematova at the bantamweight (54kg).

Italy’s Rebecca Nicoli qualified for the Tokyo Olympic Games, and she proved her very best in the final of the women’s lightweight (60kg) against Hungary’s Vivien Budai. The 25-year-old Italian was energetic in the attacks and she had RSC success in the second round against the returning Hungarian.

Italy’s next title was taken by Assunta Canfora, who moved back to the light welterweight (63kg) and the experienced national team member had a quick success in the final against Azerbaijan’s newcomer, Lala Namazli.

Azerbaijan’s Khasan Malikov had a tight success over Uzbekistan’s Asian U22 silver medallist Shodiyorjon Melikuziev and he joined the final at the minimumweight (48kg). The local boy will meet for the title Kazakhstan’s World Champion, the 36-year-old Temirtas Zhussupov on Day5.

Azerbaijan’s Tokyo Olympian Tayfur Aliyev won all of his key contests at the Great Silk Way Tournament and he eliminated Russia’s Ilia Popov as well. The 27-year-old Azeri will be facing for the gold medal with Uzbekistan’s Abdullokh Madaminov at the light welterweight (63.5kg).
