Legendary boxing matches – Legendary boxers: The oldest world champion

Author: Zizi

There are matches, which are never to be forgotten, and there are boxing icons, who are going to stay with us for eternity.

First let me be more precise about my topic, the oldest professional boxer ever, who became a world champion. If you think about it, the winner should be a heavyweight champion, because those athletes are like great wine: they become better as they age.

Well, you are almost right, Bernard Hopkins was the oldest boxer ever, who could win a major boxing championship, when he won against the light-heavyweight champion Jean Pascal and captured the WBC and The Ring light-heavyweight titles in 2011.

Hopkins was 46 years and 126 days old on that day, while his opponent was almost 18 years younger. The new world record holder could not enjoy his success for too long, because on April 28 of 2012 he lost his titles against Chad Dawson via majority decision.

Besides his world record, Hopkins had an impressive professional boxing career, his first fight was in 1988 and the last one in 2016, and during these almost three decades he fought 67 times with 55 wins.
