Latvia celebrated record-breaking day in Porec

Three of the Latvians advanced to the men’s semi-finals at the eighth competition day at the European Youth Boxing Championships in Porec, Croatia.

The men’s minimumweight (48kg) delivered top battles in Porec on Day8, the Serbian Nikola Maksimovic won the tightest bout against Israel’s David Zakhari after the bout review. Ukraine’s Oleksandr Zvieriev had also a hard bout against North Macedonia’s Bajram Mamutovski among the smallest boxers.

Spain’s Ismael Maghraou Fryhah is a new talent in the youth national team but he managed to beat Moldova’s Alexandru Cenusa and he is now a guaranteed medallist in Porec. The fourth medallist at the men’s minimumweight (48kg) is Azerbaijan’s favourite, Bilalkhabasi Nazarov who bowed out Ireland’s Scott Thompson.

Bulgaria’s Viktorio Iliev had to do his very best against Latvia’s Nikolajs Zamjatins in the quarter-finals of the lightweight (60kg) but his efforts were enough to beat his Baltic rival. Croatia’s Matej Marton, Ukraine’s Bohdan Cheldyk and France’s Djemmal Mohamed Ali Djamel are the further medallists in this weight class.

Latvia’s Emmanuils Sidorenko reached his career highlight advancing to the semi-finals of the light welterweight (63.5kg) after beating Israel’s Vladyslav Pihor in a tight contest. Romania’s Iosif Bandula had the same tough fight in the quarter-finals while Ukraine’s Artur Kuzmenko and Ireland’s Ryan Jenkins dominated their contests.

Hungary’s Krisztian Nileborg spent only one and half minute in the ring against Belgium’s Yakoub Bakhi and the referee stopped the bout after the second count. Israel’s Ahmad Jabarin, Ukraine’s Mykyta Zakharchenko, and Poland’s Fabian Urbanski are the further medallists at the middleweight (75kg).

Latvia’s Arturs Vaisla delivered his very best against Belgium’s Zakariya Bentouhami and he had the clear success in their meeting. Latvia’s third guaranteed medal was achieved by Nikita Prohorovskis at the light heavyweight (80kg) which made the day fantastic for them.
