Richards and Ngamba are the first gold medallists at the Gee Bee Tournament

Wales’ Scott Richards and Refugee Boxing Team’s Olympian Cindy Ngamba won the first finals at the 42nd Gee Bee Tournament in Helsinki during the evening session.

Germany’s Denis Bril is only 19-year-old but he has more than 140 bouts already and he ruled the middle of the ring against Sweden’s Hadi Hadrous who was also born in 2004. The German boxer had elegant style of boxing and he looked quicker than the Swedish therefore his hand was raised after the last gong.

Germany’s next boxer in action was David Gevorgian, a tall technician at the light welterweight (63.5kg), but Denmark’s Abdallah Abou Arab moved closer to him with aggressive style of boxing. The Danish landed strong hooks in the first and second rounds and he was able to save some fuel for tomorrow’s final as well.

Chinese Taipei’s Lai Chu En and England’s Cameron McKay had different style of boxing and their light welterweight (63.5kg) contest became spectacular in Helsinki. Lai, who qualified for his second Olympic Games, suffered a tight loss to the powerful English boy, the final verdict was 3:2 to McKay.

Finland’s Jimi Noioso competed in the Youth World Boxing Championships in 2022 and the 19-year-old joined the elite competitions only a few months ago. The middleweight (75kg) teenager was technically better than his local rival, Bekim Bejtullahi and he won all of the three rounds on the scorecards.

Wales’ Scott Richards has excellent technical skills and he showed it in the first round against the Refugee Boxing Team’s 10-year-older Omid Ahmadisafa. His opponent was member of the Iranian national team in the past but the Welsh boy was fresh and he won this flyweight (51kg) final.

Refugee Boxing Team’s Cindy Ngamba has already qualified for the Olympics in Busto Arsizio and she uses the Gee Bee Tournament as preparation for the Games. The referee counted her Czech opponent, Monika Langerova twice in the first round and Ngamba finished the middleweight (75kg) final in the second.
