Ukraine has record number of 16 finalists in Porec

Ukraine has record number of 16 finalists at the European Youth Boxing Championships in Porec, Croatia following the semi-finals concluded off the coast of the Adriatic Sea.

France’s Mathilda Fragnieres became the first finalist in the entire competition, she eliminated Ukraine’s Solomia Lyniv and she will now meet for the title of the women’s minimumweight (48kg) England’s star Ruby White.

England’s second finalist will be Alice Pumphrey who defeated also a Greek opponent as White, she was too quick for Maria Georgopoulou in the semi-finals. The English light flyweight (50kg) boxer will have a Turkish opponent in the final, Emine Kilinc.  

France’s next top youth talent, Teresi Maloe had a successful battle against Ukraine’s Bozhena Melnyk and she will fight for the title of the bantamweight (54kg) Ourania Kantzari of Greece. Another Greek boxer Panagiota Kouzilou will meet for the gold medal of the women’s featherweight (57kg) Lana Paljusic of Croatia.  

Ireland’s Ava Rose Henry Lyndon had a fantastic battle against Poland’s King Krowka but she managed to win their semi-final at the light welterweight (63kg). The next Irish semi-finalist also succeeded, Kayla Doyle Byrne outpointed Italy’s Annamaria Del Giorno.

Romania’s Amalia Maria Nita dominated the women’s middleweight (75kg) semi-final over Croatia’s Ema Plazina while among the female favourites, Ukraine’s Anastasia Taran (70kg) and Poland’s Julia Oles (81kg) also advanced to the finals.

Azerbaijan’s Bilalkhabasi Nazarov eliminated a young Spanish boxer at the minimumweight (48kg) and he will now meet Ukraine’s Oleksandr Zvieriev in the final. His teammate, Omar Aslanli joined the finals of the bantamweight (54kg) after beating a Bulgarian opponent.

Albania’s new sensation Adam Maca is only 17 but he had the powerful combinations to beat Romania’s Mario Iofciu in the semi-finals of the men’s featherweight (57kg) therefore he needs only one further step to win the category over Rasul Guliyev of Ukraine.
