The EUBC European Elite Boxing Championships opens with 19 preliminary contests today

Following the European Youth Boxing Championships, the European Elite Boxing Championships is the next competition in the agenda.

The EUBC European Men’s Elite Boxing Championships will start with its preliminary contests in Belgrade, Serbia today.

Serbia was the host of the 2021 Men’s Elite World Boxing Championships and the country arranged several competitions in the recent months as well.

This will be the first edition when both genders can compete in the same venue therefore it is a new milestone in Europe’s boxing history.

The last edition of the European Elite Boxing Championships was held for the female boxers in Budva and in Yerevan for the male athletes.

Altogether 337 boxers will compete in the European Elite Boxing Championships and 25 champions to be crowned in Serbia’s capital.

The female and the male finals are scheduled to be held on April 27 and 28 after the rest day of the championships in Belgrade.

Nineteen bouts will be held in the first competition day in Belgrade where the men’s featherweight (57kg), lightweight (60kg), light welterweight (63.5kg), middleweight (75kg), light heavyweight (80kg) and heavyweight (92kg) will be on the schedule.

North Macedonia’s Arjan Iseni and Greece’s European Youth Champion Michail Tsamalidis will meet in the first session at the men’s light middleweight (80kg) on Day1, both boxers have strong potentials for the future.

Greece’s top heavyweight (92kg) boxer Vagkan Nanitzanian will meet Georgia’s Giorgi Tchigladze in the first competition day which could be another highlight in the opener.

Belgium’s Victor Schelstraete had injuries since his bronze medal at the 2021 World Boxing Championships but he returned to Belgrade and he will open his campaign against Ireland’s Jack Marley who qualified already for the Paris Olympics.

The competition will be live streamed in the YouTube channel of the European Boxing Confederation during the entire competition.
