Perijoc, Sweeney and Ozer won the key battles in Belgrade today
Romania’s Lacramioara Perijoc, Ireland’s Shannon Sweeney and Turkey’s Gizem Ozer eliminated excellent rivals in the fifth competition day at the EUBC European Elite Boxing Championships in Belgrade, Serbia.
Anakhanim Ismailova moved back to the minimumweight (48kg) and the previous bronze medallist from the European Championships won two out of the three rounds against Armenia’s Lusine Gevorgyan today.
Ireland’s Shannon Sweeney has good results but her success over Russia’s Geliusa Galieva was above of her expectations at the women’s light flyweight (50kg) in Belgrade where Poland’s Natalia Kuczewska and Serbia’s Nina Radovanovic both won their contests.
Romania’s Lacramioara Perijoc was fantastic in the attacks against Turkey’s World Champion Hatice Akbas at the women’s bantamweight (54kg) and Wiktoria Rogalinska of Poland and Ireland’s Niamh Fay both were brilliant during the day.
Turkey’s Gizem Ozer has qualified for the Paris Olympics and she impressed in the fifth day of boxing in a hectic contest against Italy’s Rebecca Nicoli. The Turkish lightweight (60kg) boxer had several difficulties in the bout but finally her hand was raised after the last gong.
Serbia’s ex-Russian Natalia Shadrina, the silver medallist from the last European Games, opened her campaign well against Belarus’ Ala Ivashkevich and she was able to continue that strong performance until the last gong in their lightweight (60kg) meeting.
The women’s light welterweight (63kg) is not an Olympic category but the quality is absolutely high in Belgrade where Bulgaria’s Aslahan Mehmedova, Switzerland’s Anna Jenni and Slovakia’s Tamara Kubalova all were on the victorious side.
Romania’s Loredana Andreea Marin, the 2021 European Youth Champion, moved up to the welterweight (66kg) and she had the technical skills to beat Spain’s Mariana Soto while Belgium’s Oshin Derieuw was able to beat Hungary’s Luca Hamori on their exciting re-match in this weight class.
