Rakhmanberdiyev, Shin and Yatri are semi-finalists in Astana

Eleven countries claimed already medals in the third competition day at the ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan today.

Kyrgyzstan’s Sadyr Rakhmanberdiyev had a strong start in the first round against Chinese Taipei’s Zheng Yu Ju and he had the advantage in all of the judges’ scorecards. The Kyrgyz middleweight (75kg) boxer had better punches and he was stronger than his opponent to finish the bout in the second round.

Kyrgyzstan’s Azim Choybekov was the favourite in the next cruiserweight (86kg) contest against South Korea’s Shin Min Seung and he looked smart in the first round. The Korean received the right instructions in the first break and Shin was able to turn back their quarter-final bout, earning his country’s first guaranteed medal in the championship.

South Korea’s Park Ah Hyun won her first contest in Astana with excellent performance and she landed nice jabs from her distance in the first round against India’s Patel Yatri Shirishkumar in their featherweight (57kg) quarter-final. The Indian switched into a higher tempo and her pressure paid off in this contest to achieve a medal in Astana.

Kazakhstan’s Ayazhan Sydyk is a southpaw boxer from the Karagandy region who joined the youth age group this January. She moved down to the featherweight (57kg) in the previous months and she had the advantage after three minutes against Chinese Taipei’s Lin Chian You. The taller Kazakh controlled all of the exchanges and her combinations were decisive in the second round to win the fight by RSC.

Kyrgyzstan’s Medina Abyldayeva won the Ibraimov Prizes Women’s Youth Tournament in Kazakhstan earlier this year but she did not find the best weapon in the first round against Vietnam’s Tran Thi Truc Han. The most experienced Kyrgyz female boxer caught Tran with a heavy left-handed jab in the second round and Abyldayeva’s speed in the third made a U-turn in this quarter-final bout.
