Inoue’s team prepares with a backup opponent

A fight between Naoya Inoue (26-0, 23KO) and Luis Nery (35-1, 27KO) is scheduled for May 6 in Tokyo, with the Japanese fighter’s undisputed super-bantamweight title on the line.

Nery, however, is notorious in Japan for not always being able to make the mandatory weight limit, so the Japanese side has decided that in the event that the Mexican is unable to make the mandatory super-bantamweight limit, the former Irish world champion TJ Doheny (25-4, 19KO), who has so far come to Japan to win, will box against Inoue. If Nery doesn’t cause any trouble, Doheny will still box at the Tokyo Dome, against Filipino Bryl Bayogos (7-0-1, 2KO).
